PHP/Laravel Developer
Permanent | £40,000-£50,000 DOE | Hybrid (1-2 days in office, rest remote) | Office commutable from Birmingham (West Midlands)
Are you an experienced PHP/Laravel Developer looking to take on a role where you'll work on exciting projects and be part of a forward-thinking development team? We're partnering with a growing tech business that is looking to add a Software Developer to their engineering function.
The Role
As a Software Developer, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality, secure, and scalable software. You'll play a key role in building and maintaining modern web applications, liaising with clients, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and to spec. Beyond coding, you'll have the opportunity to guide junior developers, share knowledge, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing robust applications using PHP and Laravel
- Working with modern stacks such as TALL (Tailwind, Alpine.js, Laravel, Livewire)
- Designing and maintaining MySQL databases
- Building responsive front-end solutions (HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks)
- Creating and consuming RESTful APIs
- Managing code with Git and using Docker/CI/CD for deployments
- Working within Linux environments and leveraging AWS services (EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, etc.)
- Collaborating with clients, clearly communicating progress and technical concepts
- Mentoring junior developers and supporting knowledge sharing across the team
Skills & Experience We're Looking For
- Strong commercial experience with PHP and Laravel
- Experience with front-end frameworks such as Alpine.js or Vue.js
- MySQL and database design principles
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Linux CLI
- Experience with cloud environments (ideally AWS)
Bonus Skills (not essential):
- Python
- GraphQL / Shopify integrations
- Unit testing (PHP Unit)
- Ecommerce platforms (Magento, Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.)
- Mobile application development
- Exposure to Machine Learning / AI
